DHL GROUP’S TRUCKAIR TRANSFORMS MULTIMODAL TRADE

As a titan of the global logistics value chain, DHL Group offers a whole host of innovations that continue to shape the international supply chain.

Most recently, DHL Global Forwarding – an air, ocean, and freight forwarding subsidiary – launched TRUCKAIR, a cost-efficient multimodal service purposefully created to accelerate the shipment of large-volume and bulk goods between Europe and China.

TRUCKAIR utilises a combination of road and air freight to achieve the perfect balance between speed and cost, making the most of the world’s best trade markets.

The process is simple in structure but highly effective in practice. General or stackable cargo goes through inland pickup in China, before being transported by truck to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, where it is then moved by plane for onward delivery to Istanbul, Turkey – the gateway to European trade hubs.

By utilising the multimodal service, companies can expect a total transit time of nine to 11 days, which is only four to five days longer than exclusively using air freight – a much more costly mode of transit.

Whilst total transit costs may differ depending on the shipment, many customers have already reported six-figure savings in just two months.

TRUCKAIR is therefore the ideal choice for companies that require both reliability and cost efficiency in shipping high-value goods.

SHIPPING EFFICIENCY YOU CAN TRUST

DHL Global Forwarding offers end-to-end routing, border handling, and customs transshipment solutions as part of the service, making it a highly comprehensive operation.

Aditi Rasquinha, CEO of DHL Global Forwarding Greater China, emphasises how TRUCKAIR overcomes market issues, such as peak demand during Chinese New Year that has a knock-on effect on transit capacity.

Rasquinha equally believes that the multimodal service’s flexibility allows customers to avoid instability and maintain predictable lead times, meaning companies can meet the time-sensitive demands of high-volume sectors and the growing retail industry.

The initial success of TRUCKAIR also points to China’s growing reputation as a global trade hub, characterised by an ever-expanding network, world-leading logistics infrastructure, and deep adoption of smart technologies.

As such, DHL Global Forwarding’s TRUCKAIR service capitalises on this unique position to overcome adversities often experienced in the global supply chain, as it serves as an open door to the burgeoning trade routes between Europe and Asia.
